Reclaimed Organ Pedalboard Coffee Table
This piece centers a pedalboard taken from an early-1900s choir organ, which is integral to both the appearance and structure of the table. As with the bowling alley furniture, I took care to rejuvenate the reclaimed material without removing all the wear that shows its age. In this case, that meant thoroughly cleaning the pedalboard, removing blemishes from the original finishing process, and correcting the color in some areas before applying a fresh coat of lacquer. I also polished the hardware and modified the clearance for the screw heads so that when fully installed the slots would all be aligned.
The body of this table is relatively simple, but one feature in particular was a treat to work on. The glass is set flush with the aprons and tops of the legs, and the internal corners can only reasonably be cut by hand. I primarily use power tools in order to offer competitive prices and lead times, but I enjoy every time that hand tools are the best choice for the job.
